THE ARCHIVE OF MEMORY/HOME

Archive of Memory-Home.jpg

A living archive housing memories from people around the world.

The Archive examines what objects—letters, photographs, books, poetry, art, and any other material object—we hold onto and how these material objects take on new meaning.

Whether passed down generationally, held onto through upheaval, life changes, or as a reminder of a particular place, time, or someone from our past—the project aims to understand why these material objects hold spaces on our bookshelves, cabinets, and private archives. How do we find home in these objects and what can these objects tell us about who we are, where we are from, or about a place or person that once was?

Participants are invited to share the story of memory and/or material object using a mixture of storytelling orally or written, creating a multimedia piece or any other format you find suitable.

Open to anyone in the world, participants will be invited to submit their object and story through a website. The goal is to collect as many stories as possible in various languages from people across the world that will, in turn, create a shared space and a living archive of human experiences. Stories and objects will be presented on a website and through an Instagram account that will share the stories of participants.

This project will be presented at The Laboratory For Global Performance and Politics (Georgetown University) Verge Festival, May 7 to 9, 2021. Details to be announced soon.
